Technopolice and the surveillance in smart city

by Domen Savič

Are smart cities just another word for surveillance society or can we truly benefit from multiple sensors in public places? We sat down with members of the Technopolice initivative in Brussels that tracks, analyses and campaigns against smart city and surveillance capitalism solutions.

Can smart city solutions protect our privacy, does surveillance work and what is the political reasoning for implementation of such solutions?

Citizen D advice:

  • Demand an open debate on the smart city implementations
  • Demand an open and up to date registry of surveillance systems implementations
  • Work locally and map out individual instances of smart city
